Free Cards and more Fan Mail! Episode 21

Episode 21 from chris andrew on Vimeo.

Welcome back to Opening Day Cards, where everyday is Opening Day.

Today we are opening up some more mail we have received in the past few weeks, and more importantly, we are opening up some new packs of baseball cards and giving them all away for free*.

First the fan mail: A big thank you to Troy for sending us some TTM autos of Mike Cameron and Jamie Moyer. A big thank you to the USPS for saving Troy's letter to us.

Next, the free cards* for you: We each open up a pack of 1992 Upper Deck Denny's Grand Slam holograph cards. Tune in to see the two players we opened. We also open packs of Topps 2009 Updates and Highlights. Does Joe get his Edgar Renteria dream card, or Chris his Mike Cameron?

Last, a special surprise: a Mother's Cookies Nolan Ryan 5000 Strike Out card, still sealed in the original package (thank you Nils!). To make this card yours, you need to leave us a comment with your best strike out story. As a hitter, did you strike out in the last inning of a huge playoff game with your team down one run? As a pitcher, did you sit down the league's best slugger in a clutch situation? Leave us a comment with your best strikeout story and this Nolan Ryan is yours!

It's me again--

I have a pretty lame strikeout story it probably will not be close to winning but in 6th grade (back when I was one of the better players) my team was in the championship game for town baseball. We were doing 8 runs going into the bottom of the last inning. My team started getting hits like crazy and we ended up scoring 7 runs with only 2 outs. The batter before me doubled so I was up with the tying run in scoring position with the chance to be the hero. I watched the first two pitches go for two straight strikes. The third pitch came right down the middle but I was so afraid to let my team down that I swung when the catcher caught the ball. We lost the game but later that day I won the home run derby and tickets to the Brockton Rox. (Chris you might know them)

Another Mets-free episode. It's a conspiracy I tell ya. A C-O-N Spiracy. :)

I sent two specially made packs out to you guys yesterday. Chris' pack was totally thicker than Joe's because it just seems there are way more Sox cards out there but just before mailing it I pulled something out of a jumbo pack I just had to send you Joe. I'll let you guys argue over who got more love. I don't play favorites.

BTW if anyone out there loves the Mets, hates the Mets or simply enjoys laughing at them, check out my new Onion-style humor blog "The Appple" www.readtheapple.com I'm really new to this and would love some comments on the site.

hey so her is what happened it was last weekend durring my game botten of the 7th(we only play 7innings)and bases loaded we are down 1 run and it is a full count... the pitch came and it was a curve ball comming right at my head so i fell on the ground so it would not hit me (that was natural instink) next thing i know the ump called strike three i was sitting in the dirt at home felling like an idiot and my whole team was in shock and then started laughing..... it was the best curve ball i have ever seen but the wost stike out i ever had b/c if i stayed in there and did not fall hit might have hit me or i could have fouled it off who knows but that has to be the wost stike out i have ever had inthe past 7 years i played baseball......by william nick shaw....

So here it was I was playin and it wa the bottom of the 7th and I was up to bat. Then the count was suddenly 1-2 then I hit one deep and went foul. Then I stuckout with the bases loaded

Austin Buchholz said...

Hey can I get Felix Hernadez and Chone Figgins

Unknown said...

Hey, can I have the Medlen RC? Thanks!

Tkoz said...

Oh sweet I have the best.

It is the top of the 9th and there are two men on base (First and Second). The kid on second steals. I was so distacted that I hit the kid at bat in the leg. Now bases are loaded. I pitch and the count is full. The kid takes the pitch he is running to first and the ump calls him back and throws down the fist in his face and we won. It was so funny!!!!!!!

Here's my story: 10 yrs old (Bronco League back in the 70's). I had not struck out once all season. Much like never mentioning a no-hitter during a game, Dad and I never talked about the streak, but he did point to the "0" in the column in the stats after each game. So, last game of the reg season, 2nd at bat and the pitcher is the only girl in the league. She got 2 strikes on me and lobbed a "change-up" toward the plate. No need to spell out the outcome. Dad never let me forget that lone "K".

nick shaw said...

hey chris if you are talking about a girl striking you out that is nothing because when i was in fith grade playing fall ball there was an all girl baseball team that was in our division ......yep all girls....the pitcher was on fire well she was smoking hot... and she had a really fast... fast ball i was the lead off hitter and i could not stand that this was an all girl team so first swing i hit a home run over a 235 fence my team got so excited b/c they thought they could hit off her and next thing you know she strikes out the next 10 in our line up now it is my 2nd time up she is still pitching first pitch....bang right in the head i was so mad! i stole 2nd and then 3rd b/c the girl catcher had no arm......then of corse the side gets retired with another 3 strike out no one got on base again b/c they either struck out or fly out my thrid at bat the same pitcher last inning the score 2-1 2 outs we are losing first pitch faseball strike 1 another strike 2 and then 5 more pitches all fouls then 3 stright balls i was thinking that she was she know was distracted and could not through a strike so i was waiting for the pitch i tried to call time with the home plate ump to make her even more distacted but when i put my hand up and called time i steped out of the box and gusse what.......... he did not grant me it so in the middle of the wind up i steped back in the box but i was to late b/c the pitch was allready in the mitt of the catcher and the game was over strike three i was so pissed that i lost the game for my team but i got something good out of it i was the only one to get a hit off the pitcher and then it all tunes south i asked her out after the game and she slaped me and said whhy should i go out with you you broke my perfect game and my no hitter....... if i had the chance again i would still do the same thing every time but loseing to a team full off girls hell no if that ever happens to me again i will be finished with baseball

This is the best strikeout It was 4-3 in the little league world series in my city i was up in the count 3-0 and got 2 strikes looking so the pitcher threw a high one and i foul tipped it into the catchers glove popped out as i started running and i looked back the ball was bare handed by the catcher

Joe and Chris said...

Hey Grizz, thanks for tuning in. That's a pretty sad story. Do you still play baseball?
