Episode 34 - ODC on the road! (Big contest!)

Episode 34 is a big one! We've got www.thedugoutcards.com back as a sponsor and this is an extra special episode. Check out our "commemorative patch card" and there's a contest to win it. You need to tell us the best baseball card trade you've ever made.

Yo we are living blogging on our cross-country road trip. I just left Rockies stadium where I saw Mr. Ubaldo ignoring the altitude, the hitter's park, and laying down Pirates one after another - the guy is Cy Young Quality for sure. Unfortunately Joe couldn't make it to the game, they don't like dog's in the stadium.

As Joe put it there is a lot of those people like me out there but I guess Jack Dorsey has more pull than me so I won't cry over the card. If it is still available I would like the Ken Griffey Jr. Card. Thanks again guys.

So was Rigby just making a Cameo in the last episode or you trying to make him a regular guest. If not you could just leave him in the dog house so he can keep the Orioles and Royals company.

Could I get the Griffey card or the Seattle Mariners History card. Thanks guys I will post my trade story later.

Chris in VT said...

Hey guys...I'd really like the Roy Campanella or the Robin Yount.Would've loved the Griifey but got beat to it.Have a bunch of the original anyway. So the best trade story that sticks out in my mind is from way back.My family used to get together at my grandmother's house every Sunday for dinner and my cousin Randy and I traded a lot of cards. So this had to be 1989 b/c Randy was really into Ricky Jordan,a Phillies prospect who was supposed to be great, sort of like Gregg Jeffries for the Mets.Anyway,I had a number of Ricky Jordan rookie cards,1989 Topps,Donruss,Fleer,Score and I believe 1 Upper Deck.I traded 8-10 Ricky Jordan cards for a 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson rookie card in great condition. Might've been the most lopsided trade in baseball card history!!

Chris in VT said...

PS-I believe I still have the Henderson card somewhere in my house,or my dad's. Also,I asked last ep,but am very curious as to the answer...Joe, is Rigby named for the Beatles song?
Thanks again for everything guys!

Hey guys whats up. I put alot of thought into this story because I traded so many cards. My biggest card I even traded was traded to the card shop I have in town here. I traded him my Jay Bruce Autograph/Jersey Card for my newest owned card Matt Kemp Autograph Chrome Card 1/10

My best trade might be a recent one with a blogger who is a Red Sox fan and is from England. Not New England, but England England. I sent him about 30 Red Sox base cards from the 90’s that I didn’t need and only guys like him and Chris would appreciate. I’m talking about cards like a 1995 Score Steve Farr and 1997 Topps Heathcliff Slocumb. In return, I got close to 90 base cards of Yankees and Mets that hit on a bunch of my needs. First, the majority of these were from 2009-10 – cards I don’t have much of. Next, I also added to my collection of players I collect: 3 Jeters, a Piazza, and a Wang card. I also like cards of managers when they were players, and there was one of Bob Geren, the A’s manager, as a catcher with the Yankees. Last, he sent the complete set of Yankees from 1990 Fleer. So while no individual card has great book value, the quantity and players made it worth it for me. Plus, it was just cool trading across the Atlantic and seeing a huge postage stamp of the Queen.

Hey guys, thanks for the great trade stories. Chris and I are on the road for a few weeks this summer, so we will be a bit late in sending out cards and choosing a winner of the contest. Thanks for your patience.

Chris in VT - you are absolutely right, we did name Rigby after the Beatles, which both my wife and I really enjoy. Her full name on her papers is Eleanor Rigby.

The best trade ever was I traed a kid in my school new in collecting and he had no clue what the value of anything was and he opened his book and all he had was patch cards i was like omg inside but i didint want to say anything cause he didnt know. I was like i guees i could trade u this for a jay bruce 16/25 letterman card and he said yes. I ended up trading him a Manyy Ramerize 75/75 bat card from like 2000 and he had was happy and so was I.

Joe in Cleveland said...

My best trade story comes from 1987 but isn't baseball...when I traded a pile of about 200 87 topps football cards to a buddy for about 100 86-87 Fleer Basketball cards....I put them away and forgot about them for a couple of years, and guess what I found when I finally went through them, yup, a Jordan Rookie....

My buddy wasn't even mad about it, he had a couple and said it was a fair trade at the time...so that's by far my best trade....especially since I didn't lose a friend...
